Critical Language Scholarships at Portland State University 2025

Critical Language Scholarships are provided by Portland State University to students who have enrolled themselves in a bachelor's program at the University.

Eligibility criteria for Critical Language Scholarships:

Applicants must:

• Be U.S. citizens at the time of application.
• Be enrolled in an accredited U.S. degree-granting program at the undergraduate (associate’s or bachelor’s) or graduate level.
• Be at least 18 years old by the start of the program.
• Meet specific language prerequisites depending on the language (some languages require prior study; others accept beginners).
• Be in good academic standing at their institution.
• Plan to continue language study beyond the scholarship period and utilize language skills in their future careers.

Benefits of Critical Language Scholarships:

The CLS Program offers 8–10 weeks of intensive language instruction and cultural activities, typically running from early June to mid-August. All program expenses are fully covered.
