In 1995, the German-Asian Programme was established at the Federal Foreign Office's initiative during the "Asia-Europe Summit" held in Bangkok. Journalists from Southeast Asian nations, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and other regions received assistance for a long time. IJP will only grant a fellowship to Japan in 2024, in recognition of that country's strategic significance in the changing geopolitical landscape and as the host nation of Expo 2025. This curriculum focuses on emerging technologies, environment/energy/climate politics, economics, and geopolitics. Strong proficiency in at least one of these areas is required of applicants.
Eligibility for The German-Asian Programme:
German and Japanese journalists between the ages of 28 and 45 who frequently work as editors, trainees, or freelancers for Asian or German newspapers, radio or TV stations, or online editorial offices are welcome to apply. It is assumed that you know English well. German language proficiency is not required.
