1916 Bursary
- The 1916 Bursary is designed to support students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented groups in higher education.
- Co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (DFHERIS), the bursary aims to enhance participation and success for these students.
- The bursaries are administered through regional clusters of higher education institutions and are awarded based on the greatest financial need.
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible for the 1916 Bursary, applicants must meet financial, college entry, and priority group criteria.
- Financially, applicants must qualify for the special rate of maintenance grant under the SUSI Grant Scheme or receive a long-term means-tested social welfare payment.
- For college entry, applicants must be first-time new entrants to higher education or socio-economically disadvantaged mature students.
- Priority is given to those from underrepresented groups, including socio-economically disadvantaged students, students with disabilities, members of the Irish Traveller and Roma communities, and migrants or refugees.
Bursary Value
- The 1916 Bursary is available in three tiers:
- Tier 1: €5,000 per year for full-time undergraduate students for the normal duration of their program (up to six years for part-time students). This is also available for postgraduate study.
- Tier 2: €2,000 per year for full-time undergraduate students for the duration of their program (up to six years for part-time students). This is also available for postgraduate study.
- Tier 3: A one-off bursary of €1,500 for the 2023/24 academic year only.
