The Joseph Ghio Scholarship

The Joseph Ghio Scholarship is designed to support students who are pursuing a career in education, specifically those enrolled in a Single Subject Credential Program with a focus on vocational education. This scholarship is intended for individuals who are committed to teaching students who may not be pursuing a traditional college path, but instead are interested in vocational training that prepares them for success in the workforce. The award recognizes students who are passionate about vocational education and who aspire to make a meaningful impact on students’ lives, particularly in high-need areas.

Eligibility

To qualify for the Joseph Ghio Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Minimum GPA: A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.

Full-Time Enrollment: 

• Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students.

This means:

• Undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 units.
• Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 units.

Enrolled in a Single Subject Credential Program:

• Applicants must be enrolled in a Single Subject Credential Program, which is focused on preparing them to teach specific subjects, such as vocational courses.

Interest in Teaching Vocational Courses:

• Applicants must demonstrate an interest in teaching vocational courses, specifically aimed at students who may not be college-bound but who will benefit from practical, career-focused education.

Financial Need:

• Applicants must qualify for financial aid.
• In addition to meeting the above eligibility requirements, the recipient of this scholarship must also write a thank you note to the donor expressing gratitude for the award.

• Award Amount: $2,500.00

Complete the General Application:

• Start by filling out the General Application, which will collect personal information and details about your academic background.

Complete the Supplemental Question:

Submit a brief statement (500 words) addressing the following:

• Your scholastic and work responsibilities, including how they have prepared you for a career in education.
• Your professional ambitions, particularly as they relate to teaching vocational courses.
• Your contributions to school and community activities, with a focus on teaching or vocational education.

Complete the Conditional Application:

• If prompted, complete any additional steps or forms required to be considered for this scholarship.
