Shirley Barnett Memorial Fund at San Francisco State University is offered to students who are enrolled in a university degree program in the College of Liberal & Creative Arts.

Eligibility Criteria of Shirley Barnett Memorial Fund at San Francisco State University:

• Applicants may come from any nationality.
• Applicants must be 40 years or older.
• Applicants must be Undergraduate or Graduate students at the College of Liberal and Creative Arts.
• Applicants pursuing their majors in History are given first consideration.
• Applicants graduating in the spring and summer of 2025 are not eligible.
• Applicants must be enrolled in at least three units at the time of disbursement. 
• Applicants if graduate students must be in the grace period or enrolled in LCA-499.

Application Process:

• The candidates must apply online to be considered for the scholarship.
• The application should include the following components:
  
  • Letter from the Chair or Director of the student major (indicating the program will make use of thirty hours of service by the recipient during the semesters in which they will receive the scholarship)
  • Personal statement outlining the events that led to a delay or interruption in their education, along with a timeline that details the gap from high school to the present
  • Unofficial transcript
  • Letter of Recommendation
  • Self-reported statement regarding financial need.

Value of the Scholarship:

The successful candidates are awarded the scholarship based on the following quota:

• Undergrad - max. USD 9,000;
• Grad - max. USD 7,500.
