The Young Independent Student Bursary supports young people from underrepresented backgrounds, such as care leavers, estranged students, young carers, and refugees, in accessing and continuing higher education.
Eligibility for Young Independent Student Bursary:
Applicants must:
- Be fee-assessed as a home student
- Be studying full-time and paying tuition fees of £9,250 per year
- Be aged under 25 at the start of their course
- Be in receipt of a Student Finance Maintenance Loan
- Belong to one of the following groups:
- Previously lived in care
- Previously lived in a foyer
- Be currently estranged from their biological or adoptive parents (for at least 12 months)
- Be a young adult carer
- Be a young refugee
Application Process:
Students must submit an application form to the university to be eligible for the scholarship.
Value of the Bursary:
The successful candidates are awarded a bursary of GBP 1,000.
