Purpose:
The Scholarship provides financial support for promising second-year Bachelor of Nursing students from populations, communities, and regions typically underrepresented in nursing who might not otherwise be able to access education. It is specifically intended for those who reside in the Waikato DHB region and plan to pursue a career in nursing upon graduation, in the wider Waikato DHB region.
Eligibility for the Braemar Charitable Trust Scholarship in Nursing:
- Applicant must be enrolled full-time (i.e. 120 points) in the second year of their Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Waikato in the year of tenure.
- Candidate should be from a population, community, and region typically under-represented in nursing and which experiences barriers to attending University.
- Students should have been enrolled full-time and achieved at least a B+ average in their first year of study at the University of Waikato.
- Applicants must reside in the Waikato DHB region and intend to work in healthcare in the wider Waikato DHB region upon graduation.
- Candidate should be eligible for domestic fees status (i.e. be a NZ Citizen, NZ Permanent Resident, NZ Resident Class Visa holder, or Australian Citizen/Permanent Resident domiciled in NZ).
Selection Criteria:
- Academic merit
- The candidate will likely use their study to contribute to the NZ health sector, particularly in the wider Waikato DHB region.
- Alignment of the applicant to the purpose of the scholarship.
- Financial hardship and extraordinary personal circumstances may also be taken into consideration.
Application Process:
Students need to submit an application form along with a personal statement to the university to be eligible for the scholarship.
Value of the Scholarship:
- NZD 5,000 will be paid directly to the recipient as soon as practicable after acceptance of the Scholarship, or after the withdrawal date of A Trimester (whichever is latest).
- NZD 5,000 will be paid directly to the recipient after the withdrawal date of the B Trimester and is conditional on the student passing all courses in the A Trimester in the year of tenure.
