    For young researchers with extraordinary qualifications, there is a postdoctoral program called the Branco Weiss Fellowship. For a maximum of five years, the fellows can work on their topics anywhere in the globe with a personal research grant provided by the fellowship. After receiving their PhD but before starting their first academic position, postdoctoral researchers are intended to be supported by the Fellowship.

    Eligibility for ETH Zurich: Branco Weiss Fellowships at the University of Melbourne:

    • On January 15, 2025, the candidate should formally receive their PhD.
    • Before January 15, 2025, the candidate should have received their PhD no later than five years ago.
    • The candidate should not or have held a position equal to that of a faculty member (e.g. assistant professor or lecturer)
    • A history of exceptional scientific accomplishment is required of the candidate.
    • The proposal should show that the applicant is open to conversing about important social, cultural, political, or economic topics that go outside the purview of their field.

    Selection Criteria:

    Branco Weiss requires the participation of fellows to offer original research methods that deviate from what is usual. A project that explores novel research directions—often interdisciplinary ones—must be submitted by applicants. In addition, they have to demonstrate exceptional accomplishments in their scientific field and be open to discussing pertinent social, cultural, political, and economic topics outside of their field of expertise.
