Eligibility for the Howard G. Buffett Fund for Women Journalists:
- Applicants may apply for one of two different types of funding: reporting projects or professional development opportunities. The Fund for Women Journalists will prioritize reporting projects pitched around underreported stories of global importance.
- Reporting projects include journalistic work in any media format, including but not limited to print, digital, broadcast, audio, video, photography, and new media.
- We encourage applicants to consider a one-year timeline or less for the completion and publication of their project. Exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis.
- Freelance and staff journalists of any nationality may apply.
- Applications must be submitted in English or Spanish, but reporting may be published in any language.
- The IWMF accepts applications from individual women and nonbinary journalists and teams of journalists.
- Applicants must have at least one year of professional journalism experience, with a track record of publishing in non-student outlets.
Value of the Fund:
Successful applicants of the Howard G. Buffett Fund for Women Journalists will receive up to $10,000 for their proposal.

Any freelance or staff journalist regardless of his/her nationality is eligible to apply.
Documents and submissions have to be made in English or Spanish while reporting may be in any language of the applicant’s choice.
The IWMF welcomes applications from individual women and nonbinary journalists or groups of journalists.
FOR TEAMS: Teams can include any gender of journalists; however, the submission must be made by a woman or nonbinary journalist and at least fifty percent of the team must be women or nonbinary.
Note: The IWMF has stated that gender does not fit into one concept. We are for all women, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming journalists.
Journalism should be the applicant’s main field of work.
The applicants must have one year of professional journalism experience and the applicant must have articles published in non-student media outlets
