Jacob and Charlotte Kahane Scholarship 2024

The scholarship was created in memory of Jacob and Charlotte Kahane.She had completed the research for and commenced writing her third book, but sadly it was not completed prior to her death on 24 November 2011. In her will, Charlotte Kahane left a bequest to RMIT University to establish a scholarship for students undertaking undergraduate studies in journalism, with a preference for Jewish students. 

Eligibility criteria:

• Applicant must be enrolling in Bachelor's of Communication (Journalism) program at RMIT in semester 1 and 2 2025.
• Applicant has at least one year of program left to complete in 2025.
• Preference will be given to students with a Jewish background. Students with non-Jewish background are also encouraged to apply.

Application process:

• The applicant has to complete an online application to be eligible for the scholarship.
• You will need:
  • If the applicant is a student from a Jewish background, you must provide evidence of Jewish heritage, e.g., a letter from your rabbi (if applicable)
  • If the applicant have studied at a tertiary institution other than RMIT,  upload a copy of  academic transcript (if applicable)
  • Up to three pieces of applicant journalistic work have had published, or examples of  work, no more than one page in length per piece (optional).

Benefits:

Selected applicants enrolled in full-time in the Bachelor of Communication (Journalism) program will be getting scholarship of up to $8,000 per year ($4,000 per semester)
