Jim Sanders Journalism, Media, and Communication Scholarship
The Jim Sanders Journalism, Media, and Communication Scholarship honors Jim Sanders' legacy, a distinguished news director known for his integrity, mentorship, and leadership. The scholarship is aimed at supporting future leaders in journalism, media, and communication industries.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Career Aspiration: Have a strong interest in pursuing a career in journalism, media, or communication.
• This includes all aspects of the industry such as engineering, sales, production (audio, video, sound editing), graphic design, human resources, and more.

Enrollment Status:

• Applicants must be currently enrolled, or entering the first semester, at a California State University (CSU) campus, and must remain enrolled throughout the scholarship period.

Leadership Qualities:

• Students must exhibit leadership qualities or demonstrate the desire to lead in their chosen career field. 

Award Value

Amount:

• One (1) $2,500 scholarship will be awarded for the academic year. 

Application Process

Personal Statement:

Applicants must submit a brief personal statement (300 words) addressing the following:

• Why they want to pursue a career in journalism, media, or communication.
• How they perceive themselves as a leader in the industry, with their career interest specified (e.g., in engineering, sales, production, etc.).

Letters of Recommendation:

If selected as a nominee, applicants will need to provide two letters of recommendation:

• One letter must be from an instructor who has taught the student.
