Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships (PhD Scholarship) For Indians 2025-2026

The Swiss Government is offering research scholarships to post-graduate researchers from any discipline planning to visit Switzerland for research or further studies at the doctoral or post-doctoral level.

Eligibility Criteria:

• The applicant must hold a Master's degree (prior to 31 July 2025).
• The applicant must be a highly qualified postgraduate student.
• The applicant must be born after 31 December 1989.
• The applicant must be enrolled in full-time PhD studies at a Swiss University.
• The applicant is expected to move to Switzerland during their grant period.

Application Process:

All eligible candidates must complete and submit the online application to be considered for the scholarship. The application should include the following components:

• Signed ESKAS application form (typed and printed) with photo,
• A full CV,
• A letter of motivation,
• Research proposal including the time frame,
• A copy of the endorsement letter from a university professor who will be the academic host (with a brief curriculum vitae, not exceeding 2 pages) at the selected university, explaining their readiness to oversee and assist with the research project.
• Two confidential letters of recommendation from two different professors in the applicant’s field, and not identical to the academic supervisor at the host institution in Switzerland.
• Photocopies of certificates and grade sheets from previously attended universities/ colleges and diplomas with grades.
• Signed certificate Fit for Mission.
• Two copies of the applicant’s passport.

Value of the Scholarship:

The successful candidates are awarded the following benefits:

• A monthly payment of CHF 1,920.
• Living costs of one person only.
