The Terra Foundation invites applications for research travel grants from doctoral students and postdoctoral and senior scholars outside the United States. These grants enable scholars to consult resources that are only available within the United States. Nine to thirteen grants are awarded annually. Travel should be undertaken within one calendar year after the announcement of the election results.
Eligibility:
- For research travel grants to the US:
- The applicant must have completed the degree within the last 5 years
- The eligible applicants are: doctoral students, postdoctoral scholars, senior scholars, and independent scholars
- For international research travel grants for US-based applicants:
- The applicant must have completed the degree within the last 5 years
- The eligible applicants are: doctoral students, postdoctoral scholars, senior scholars, and independent scholars
Application Process:
The candidate must submit the application form along with the following documents:
- A copy or scan of a government-issued picture ID.
- Two letters of recommendation (for doctoral students, one letter should be from their dissertation advisor or professor).
- A project proposal which includes:
- An overview of the research project, An explanation for why the research requires study in the US/outside of the US
- An explanation for the need for the grant to complete the project successfully
- A detailed description of the itinerary with destinations and travel dates
- A curriculum vitae
Scholarship value:
Upto twenty-five grants are awarded annually as follows:
- Up to $6,000 per grant for doctoral students from Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand.
- Up to $7,000 per grant for doctoral students from Asia, Africa, and South America.
- Up to $9,000 per grant for all postdoctoral and senior scholars.
Funds can be used for related transportation, lodging, meals, and research fees and expenses. They cannot be used for the purchase of computers or other equipment.
