    The scholarship supports the Department's key commitment to providing the best possible educational experiences for students from a diverse range of backgrounds. Thanks to a generous donation to the University, the Bryan and Lydia Gray Scholarship provides support to talented students who have the academic potential to study at York, and who have overcome significant barriers to their educational goals.

    Eligibility for the Bryan and Lydia Gray Scholarship:

    • Open to UK (home) students in the Department of Chemistry.
    • Candidates should be holding an offer to study Chemistry at the undergraduate level for entry in September 2023.
    • Students should be permanent residents in the UK, classified as Home (UK) in university admissions procedures. Preference will be given to students who have lived, worked, or studied in the North West of England before the start of their course, ie from one of the following postcodes (If there are no suitable candidates from these postcodes, then the scholarship can be awarded to other UK students).

    A written statement of up to 500 words, how you meet the following criteria:

    • How you have overcome barriers in your personal, social, or domestic life to achieve your educational goals?
    • How do you hope to contribute to society in the future following your studies?
    • How you will use the award to help develop employability skills while at University.
