The Prize was founded in 2016 and is supported by the donor in honor of her father, Israeli-American poet and philosopher Shimon Weinroth. The Prize's primary goal is to identify and honor the student who creates the best poem and exhibits concentration and dedication to poetry writing.
Eligibility for the Shimon Weinroth Prize in Poetry:
- The prize will be awarded annually to a student who produces the best piece of poetry and demonstrates a focus and commitment to writing poetry.
- In any given year, a student who obtains any of the following will be included for consideration for this prize.
- Student awarded a PhD in Creative Practice degree (with a focus on poetry).
- Student awarded a B+ or higher in the Master of Creative Writing degree (with a focus on poetry).
- A student completing a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) or a Stage 3 course specializing in poetry (and earning a B+ or higher).
Application Process:
Students do not need to apply for this scholarship, award, or prize or complete an online application form. It is awarded on the recommendation of the relevant faculty or University of Auckland committee.
Value of the Shimon Weinroth Prize in Poetry:
Students will receive NZD 600 towards tuition fees.
