Young Carer Bursary at Oxford Brookes University 2025

Overview

• The Young Carer Bursary is available for students who are young adult carers and are planning to start full-time undergraduate study at Oxford Brookes.
• As a young carer, you provide support to a family member, friend, or partner who needs help due to illness, disability, frailty, mental health problems, or addiction.

Bursary Details

• The bursary is worth £500 per academic year.
• The bursary is paid in two instalments: normally in November and February.
• Eligibility must be confirmed with appropriate documentation regarding your role as a carer.
• Awards cannot be claimed retroactively for previous academic years.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must:

• Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or foundation degree student at Oxford Brookes University, starting in the 2024/25 academic year.
• Be aged 25 or under at the start of the course.
• Have a completed Oxford Brookes student carer record form (in collaboration with the Student Welfare Team).
• Be formally recognised as a carer for someone based on the NHS definition.
• Be in receipt of statutory funding from the Student Loans Company.
• GBS students are not eligible.

Application Process

• Complete an application form for the Student Carer Bursary.
• Provide evidence of your carer role, such as a carer’s assessment, medical evidence of the person you care for (with their consent), or confirmation from a medical professional.
