Elizabeth Gray Scholarship at University of Melbourne 2024/25

Background:

Liz’s family, friends, and colleagues have formed an endowment fund to provide ongoing support to students commencing the Melbourne JD from Indigenous Australian or refugee backgrounds who are financially disadvantaged. The scholarship supports the recipient for 3 years. Liz played a key role in Legal Aid Victoria during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s as a Commissioner and in the general law division, addressing issues of social justice and equity.

Eligibility for the Elizabeth Gray Scholarship:

• Applicants must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and have been accepted by their community of origin.
• Applicants must meet the Graduate Access Melbourne entry requirements for the Juris Doctor.
• Applicants must have applied for the Juris Doctor through Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM) under the 'Disadvantaged socio-economic circumstances' category and submitted the Disadvantaged Socio-economic Circumstances Supplementary Form.

Selection criteria:

The scholarship is awarded based on both academic merit and demonstrated financial need.
