Arts PhD Fieldwork Grant at University of Melbourne 2024

With the help of this grant, Ph.D. students in the Faculty of Arts will be able to support their fieldwork, gathering primary data for their thesis only in a field setting (for instance, a project that qualifies for funding may need access to specific communities, natural settings, native languages, historical sites, or oral histories).

Eligibility for Arts PhD Fieldwork Grant at the University of Melbourne:

• The candidate needs to be enrolled in the University of Melbourne's Faculty of Arts PhD program.
• With strong backing from your advisory committee, the applicant should be able to show that the major data collection for your Ph.D. needs fieldwork methods. Applications for fieldwork funding will be evaluated according to the methods used, not the discipline;
• At the time of confirmation of candidature, the candidate should have a Research Expenses Plan approved by their Advisory Committee. Additionally, the applicant should be able to show that they have complied with all applicable University policy requirements regarding their fieldwork, including the student travel policy and the University's code of conduct for research.

• How does your methodology meet the guidelines of what constitutes fieldwork?
• That the proposed fieldwork is essential and integral to your thesis
• The Research Expenses Plan approved at Confirmation of Candidature
