Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants may come from any nationality.
- Applicants must have an offer letter for a Ph.D. program in Southeast Asia Studies from Auckland University of Technology.
- Applicants must hold an excellent academic record.
- Applicants must select a field of study where the university can offer supervision.
- Applicants must surpass the admission requirements set by the University.
- Applicants' proposed research must be on a topic focused on Southeast Asia and its people (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam).
- New applicants in the Doctoral program intending to study full-time at AUT are given first consideration.
Application Process:
All eligible candidates must complete The Nicholas Tarling Memorial PhD Scholarship application available online. The application should include the following components:
- Academic transcripts for any previous tertiary study that was completed at a university other than AUT,
- A brief personal statement (max. one page) outlining the applicant’s motivations for doctoral study and research interest focused on Southeast Asia.
- A proposal (max. three pages) outlining the intended research using the template provided with the online application form.
Value of the Scholarship:
The successful candidates are awarded a sum of NZD 10,000 per annum.
